Highly thermally insulating microporous panels and parts mainly consisting of fumed silica, opacifiers to reduce infrared radiation and fibres for reinforcement. The air is bloked between the particles of amorphous silica (particles size: 5- 25 nm) making the parts 90% air. This panels are one of the lowest thermal conductive materials, with a thermal conductivity of 0,024 W/m·K at 200ºC and 0,032 W/m·K at 800ºC. The maximum working temperature of the microporous panels is 1.050 ºC. The microporous panel is a Euroclass A1 product. It is a non-combustible material and inhibits the spread of the flame. Microporous insulation is normally supplied at the lowest density at which the material is workable (225 kg/m³). In applications where compressive strength is important, it is possible to supply higher densities (between 270-380 kg/m³). The advantage of microporous compared to traditional insulating materials is its better thermal insulation, mainly in high-temperature applications, where the temperature requirement on the cold face is demanding, energy losses need to be improved, or the thickness of the insulation is limited. It has a low thermal conductivity, with minimal heat loss and optimal distribution of temperature. It is lighter and more energy efficient than conventional insulation, up to four times more efficient. It’s widely used in the foundry world and other sectors with high energy demand. In its manufacturing or moulding process, heat is not required, and it is done by pressure. The material is easy to cut and quick to shape, as you don’t need anything more than a sharp cutter. It is available in different formats or shapes depending on the needs of the client. Standard applications may include, high temperature insulation, petrochemical installations, foundries, ceramic hobs, ovens and chimneys, transport and household appliances.
